ST. RAPHAEL’S GUILD ~ FUNERAL GREETER MINISTRY:
When families request a funeral for their loved ones, we normally have two or three days to help the family plan the funeral. Funerals are held in the Cathedral or Chapel between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Our staff schedules the greeters and other liturgical ministers. If you would like to be on our rotating contact list of Funeral Greeters, please email us at churchoffice@sjbcathedral.org.
Please let us know if you are available to serve as a Cathedral Funeral Greeter on weekdays or Saturdays or both.
ST. MICHAEL ~ FUNERAL RECEPTION MINISTRY:
The Funeral Reception Ministry volunteers offer to help provide food and hospitality for a simple reception celebrating their loved one’s life. Families determine the reception location usually based on the number of people attending. If the reception following the funeral is held on campus, it takes place in the Parish Hall or the Office Dining Room. Some families prefer the funeral reception to be in their home, the home of a friend or relative, at the funeral home parlor or a local restaurant.
If the family does not request a reception at the Church, our ministry volunteers will bring a meal to their home.
CONSIDER HOW YOU MIGHT ASSIST THE FUNERAL RECEPTION MINISTRY
The ministry committee consists of coordinators, a staff liaison, and volunteers who serve on a rotation. Volunteers are asked to:
- help coordinate the reception at the Parish Hall,
- prepare and serve food,
- pick up reception items*,
- assist with set up (place paper products, food, drink),
- serve as greeters/hosts, or
- clean up after the event.

FUNERAL MEAL MINISTRY
If there is no reception, volunteers are asked to:
- help coordinate a meal for the family,
- prepare or purchase food, paper products*,
- deliver to the family a week to two weeks after funeral
