Thank you to all who donated to the “Building on Tradition” campaign – we have come a long way since our groundbreaking in July 2014!
As Rick Urbanowski stated at the start of the campaign, it is important that every family participate in the Capital Campaign. Your participation was the key to this campaign’s success.
In June 2014, we began the third phase of renovation and expansion of our church and school facilities which has already greatly enhanced our campus and the ministries we offer here at the Cathedral Parish!
New Parish Hall
The new Parish Hall allows us to host more gatherings of parishioners for growth in faith and fellowship in a larger, yet still intimate, setting.
New Technology Center and Library
Adding this 4,100 square foot technology center and library has augmented and enriched our school and parish.
New Church Nursery
The nursery has been relocated to the Bride’s Room, allowing us to continue to serve the young families in our parish.
Cathedral Renovations 2014
The Cathedral is the place of the bishop’s chair, the cathedra. In the early 1990′s, a cathedra was built from parts of the communion rail and was attached to the reredos, the white marble high altar. Ever since his arrival as our bishop, Bishop Duca has spoken about moving the location of the cathedra to a more traditional location, to the left of the altar, so as to be closer to the people. With this in mind, you may recall a few years back that the ambo/pulpit was moved from the left side of the altar to the right, to prepare the space for the bishop’s chair. In early 2014, the renovation began with the removal of the black slate from the sanctuar, which was relocated to the ambulatory, the creation of the new shrine areas, and the restoration of the central tabernacle.
2014 Projects in the Cathedral
- New Cathedra placed left of the altar on a platform
- Tabernacle/Sanctuary Lamp restored to original location; reconstruction of tabernacle altar
- Relocation of black slate from sanctuary to ambulatory; installation of new sanctuary marble
- New deacon and server chairs
- Renovated confessionals to better utilize space
- Improved lighting
- Improved vestibule (front gathering space)
- Creation of two new shrines
- Routine enhancement of Cathedral’s liturgical spaces, e.g. painting.
Thank you so much to all who have contributed to the Cathedral Renovation! Together with the Parish Pastoral & Finance Councils, we recognize the pastoral advantage of these projects. These improvements will enhance our worship space, and thus our liturgies, for generations.
