Caring Project for the Sisters of the Destitute

DONATE TODAY!

In a few short months, the Sisters of the Destitute’s Mother Superior will be visiting from India, bringing with her several new sisters who are moving into the convent.  As volunteers from all over the diocese come together to help them, many projects are being undertaken, such as yard work, interior painting, plumbing, flooring and heating and air conditioning.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR DONATION TO GO TOWARDS A SPECIFIC PROJECT, HERE ARE SOME IDEAS:
(3) Window Blinds   $100  (5 donors needed)
Washer & Dryer   $1,000
Paint   $1,400
Carpeting for one bedroom   $1,000   (3 donors needed)
Heat & Air Conditioning Units   $5000   (1 donor or 5 donors of $1,000 each)
Plumbing = replacement of 5 bathroom faucets, toilets, etc.  $5000  (1 donor or 5 donors of $1,000 each)

Won’t you join us in thanking the Sisters for all that they do by making a donation towards this Caring Project? The sisters have touched the lives of many through their ministry and their presence. Please consider making a online donation today or mail your donation to the Church Office, 939 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA 71101, attn: Caring Project for the Sisters. If you have any questions you may contact Jane Snyder, jsnyder@sjbcathedral.org, or call 318-221-5296, ext. 106.

Museum of the Holy Shroud @ Cathedral of St. John Berchmans
Jun 2 @ 10:00 am – Aug 3 @ 2:00 pm

The May 4th Grand Opening Exhibition of many of the finest artifacts and artworks in the collection of The Museum of the Holy Shroud was wonderful.  The exhibit was transferred to the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in February 2019.

This special day began with Latin Mass in the Cathedral at 9:00 a.m., followed by presentations including Janis Winchester’s demonstration of the VP-8 Analyzer (NASA equipment that opened up the age of Shroud investigation in 1976 because it revealed the unique three-dimensional characteristics of the cloth) and a presentation by STURP documenting photographer Barrie Schwortz!

The New Day Journal Program

On Tuesdays, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., beginning June 4 – August 20, St. John’s will start a new Grief Support Program in the Church Office Library.  Grief is a normal and natural reaction to the death of a loved one.  Few of us are prepared for the long journey of grief that is at times devastating, frightening and lonely.  If you are saddened by the recent loss of a loved one, join us as we talk about and offer steps to work through the grieving process.  For more information or to register, please contact Dotye Stanford in the church office at 221-5296 or by e-mailing dotstanford@sjbcathedral.org.

Why We’re Catholic
By: Trent Horn

Why are we Catholic?
This is the number-one question Catholics get asked and, sometimes, we ask ourselves.
Why do we believe that God exists, that He became a man and came to save us, that what looks like a wafer of bread is actually His body?
Throughout the month of June and July, you will read and reflect on the book.
Then on July 14, 21, 28 and August 4, we will have brunch at the Cathedral office to explore the question, why are we Catholic and much more.
