Our New Associate Pastor “Fr. Dhanraj”

I am Fr. Dhanraj Lourduswamy Narla and I was born on the 15th of June 1967, in an interior village, called Uriur Kuppam, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India.  My father, a policeman by trade, passed away when I was in eighth grade.  My mother Roseammal (Rose) is in her eighties lives at home in India. I have three brothers and two elder sisters many nieces and nephews.  I did all my academic and seminary education in India and, on April 24, 1995, I was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Nellore, in the state of Andhra Pradesh.  I served as Vice Rector in our seminary and then became a pastor in different parishes for almost 15 years.

I moved to United States and worked in the Diocese of Little Rock from 2009 to 2016, as Associate Pastor in Our Lady of Holy Souls church and school and then as Pastor for three and half years at St.  Mary’s Parish, Batesville, with its two mission churches.

In 2016, I returned to my home diocese as a pastor and then, for the last three years as Executive Director for Prakasam Development Social Welfare Society, an outreach wing presided over by my bishop.

I am here with the kind invitation of Most Rev. Francis I. Malone, Bishop of Shreveport, who has appointed me here at the Cathedral Parish as an associate Pastor.  I am grateful to Most Rev. Moses, Bishop of Nellore, for allowing me to do ministry in the US and to Bishop Malone for accepting me and to our Rector Rev. Fr. Peter Mangum for his warm welcome.

As I begin my first week ministry in your midst, I am indeed happy to be one among you.  I thank God for all His blessings.  As I have been in India the last six years, I will try my best to get my American accent back.  May Our Heavenly Mother Mary lead us to Her Son, Jesus Christ!  St. John Berchmans, Pray for us.  God bless you!
